Kennecott Land and the Jordan School District were awarded a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver rating for the Daybreak Elementary School and Community Center. The award was given by the U.S. Green Building Council, and it is given for buildings that help to reduce impact on the environment. Daybreak uses ground-source heating and cooling, natural lighting, and recycled building materials, in addition to reducing water usage and recycling more than half of the builder waste.
